Vodacom data pricing

How does Vodacom bill their data clients?

I have paid R7794.37 more in October for my 3Gb Vodacom data contract than usually. The money has already been deducted from my bank account and I have queried Vodacom about it. According to their EDR report, the total usage on the account was 23534781797 bytes (22227.45198mb) of which 16244621754 bytes (15342.25187mb) was out of bundle. The out of bundle rate is R1/mb, but the bill does not add up to R1/mb. It seems to be closer to 45 sents per mb. Apart from that, I paid R7794.37, but according to the EDR, the bill should be R6837.17. I have spoken to multiple people at Vodacom, but nobody could tell me how the bill amount was calculated. It is so frustrating because nobody can help me. They just kept on telling me the bill is correct. Does anyone know how they calculate it?

Hello all. Wondering if any could give me some advice. I have a ps vita that I connect to the mobile network via my mobile phone, this gives me a nat type 3. To play most things online you need atleast type 2. Would it help if vodacom changes my apn to unrestricted?

Ok, either them or my employer.

So I'm on an iPhone Talk500s contract with 500Mb data bundle. I'm on holiday, data is depleted. So I try add a data bundle to my number. Tried Vodacom site, via online banking, *111# nothing works as I have a corporate account. So I phone Vodacom and guess what..."Sir, you're not provisioned on your account to add bundles".

So I can't add data, but they're more than happy for me to go OOB at R2 a ****ing MB. **** you Vodacom.

/rant over, thanks I feel better now

Dear Vodacom, please find the nearest horse turd and suck on it!!!

This morning I blew R50 on data because I was under the impression my bundle only expires tonight. I did not receive an SMS saying my data bundle is about to expire yesterday.

Not only did I loose 220MB I have now also lost a crap load of airtime.

Why don't you SMS reminders about bundle expiry? I hate you so much right now.

Transfer Data to new SIM

Is it possible at all?

I have a SIM sitting here with 1GB per month doing nothing ... And now I may get a new tablet contract with 1GB.

Possible to transfer that previous 1GB so that I have 2GB on one card?

Just a rant - but why offer things on a special when they're not even in stock?

It's not a case of them being sold out either, I've phoned a few stores for the Xperia tablet they say they don't order even them unless someone wants ... and that's only next year (special ends first week next year).

Diagnosing abnormally high data usage

My wife has a WP8 Nokia and has chewed through 4Gb data in a week on a PAYG VC sim. She's been using the phone for surfing, email etc. nothing particularly data intensive.

The built in data monitoring app reports that she's only used just over 1GB. I've checked her usage for the past hour via a Fiddler proxy on my PC, with nothing much to report.

I really don't want to throw more data down the drain. At this point, it's difficult to know whether it's a phone setting, or a VC issue.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can get to the bottom of this?

Thanks.

I have a Vodafone Live! charge on my account for around R36. I have no clue for what this is, it falls under Calls - Data Services.

Does anyone know what this is for and how I can remove it?

Thanks

Vodacom portal registration problem

Hi peeps

Anybody know where I can direct my problem to?

Tried to register a new data prepaid number on the vodacom.co.za site - received the confirmation email, but when I click on the link I get this error from the vodacom site:

"The activation details are incorrect, please ensure that you use the exact URL specified in the email"

There are no options to re-send confirmation email (basic functionality?) or cancel the process and restart registration (basic functionality?.

You would think that the process is cancelled after say 24 hours if you don't respond to the confirmation email (basic functionality?), but I get the following message when trying to register again:

"We noticed that you are already registered with us. If you forgot the password for your Vodacom online profile, please click on the link below."

I logged a call on 25 Dec and received an email that it will be resolved in 24 hours. A few calls later, two requests to escalate...and nothing yet, still unresolved...including an admonishment that "I'm not the only one with issues, I should be patient".

I've used approximately 12Gb of prepaid the last two weeks on holiday...bought at the 2Gb promo price of R249 each which seems to be the limit on online banking prepaid purchase (both FNB and Vodacom). I presume I would be able to buy larger bundles on the vodacom site?

BlackBerry service sms's when I don't have a BlackBerry

So I ported back to Voda a few months ago, a year or two before that I was on Voda with a BlackBerry, so I'm not sure if they have some old data in their DB or not, but I am on an iPhone now and have been since my port back to Voda.

Every time I check my airtime/data balances via USSD or via the Vodacom App - even when I log in to the vodacom website I get an SMS saying that my BlackBerry service is not active.

Am I the only one who receives this or does everyone else get told they dont have BIS when they check their balances?

Last year I was getting up to 13 sms's like this a day randomly which the Voda rep seemed to fix but I still get it whenever I check my balance.

Every now and then I manage to get an "Error in Database." sms as well.

Vodacom LTE a farce?

Vodacom have HUGE billboards advertising LTE. Nice.

I got an S4mini with LTE and set it to use LTE whenever/wherever the network support it.

You call me. In your ear my phone rings 3 times but only after the 3rd ring does my phone START to ring physically. By this time you are concluding that I'm not going to answer and you cancel the call. I lose calls, friends, family and clients complain they can not reach me. What was the point of GSM technology again? Gee, I forget so easily these days....

Logged a report with Vodacom. Amazingly got a reply:

DEACTIVATE LTE ON YOUR PHONE!!

As if its my phone's fault. Tried it, sure enough, "problem solved"

So now I ask: Is "LTE" not a farce then?

General observances on Vodacom 4G/LTE

I feel like I've stepped over a line into enemy territory by posting here. :p I've long been anti the red team due to poor 3G performance and being unable to cancel my 3GB+3GB data contract. This is quickly changing though!

Context:

Prior to mid-2012, I only used MTN, trusty old yellow team. I enjoyed 4Mbps max at the office but did have service interruptions occasionally. I remember some days the connection was dead and, at one point, for a couple weeks. I mostly got by on 500MB per month. Ha! (This was a contract for the original Samsung Galaxy Tab 7", which came to an end)

Mid 2012 I was in the market for a shiny new Galaxy Tab 7.7" and *only* Vodacom had it - on a 2GB + 2GB contact (I set it to Top-up at the time). 2GB of data was a godsend. Speeds were pretty good and a bit faster than MTN but not always.

Sometime towards the end of 2012 we all (office) started to get really bad 3G service. Before 9am all was dandy but after that, everything fell over. Weeks became months. Little to no internet connection. This drove me up the wall and I resorted to using Telkom Mobile Prepaid. I got speeds of 10-15Mbps which was unheard of. I thought this would be my next service provider but I turned to the red team yet again... mid 2013 I gave the 2GB+2GB to my wife and took out a 3GB + 3GB Vodacom data only contract. Vodacom again seemed the best over time.

I moved to a new department and got speeds of up to 30Mbps. I was over the moon and at this point always had the need for speed - purely academic of course. This lasted 2 weeks I think and then the issues started! Data throughput went down to a trickle. The biggest issue was the 10-140Kbps upload speed. It was impossible to send e-mails. I started logging tickets with Vodacom and basically stopped using the service between July 2013 and December 2013. This was also partly due to both SIM cards going into a "No service" mode on our iPads.

During Xmas 2013 the unexpected happened. I bought a second-hand Vodafone LTE router and when testing that it worked properly with above Voda SIMs, I was provision for LTE automatically and sent a confirmation SMS. I decided to again try the above Vodacom contract SIMs in our iPads. One worked on 4G right away, the other remained in its "No service" state. I ended up doing a SIM swap on both contracts and had the SIMs activated for LTE only, no other VAS service.

Today I'm using Vodacom "4G" exclusively - as is my wife and I'm really happy. At home I get around 3 bars 4G service. While roaming around Joburg, I mostly get 4G with effortless switchover to 3G and back to 4G. At the office, I've got full signal 4G. So where at the end of 2013 I still had really poor 3G (I did more speed tests as I motivated my quest for cancellation without penalty), I now have *perfect* 4G.

Speeds are good. Very good. Some people may think the speeds are no better than 3G until you check the upload speed and ping. Academically, Afrihost/MTN LTE is *much* faster but it hardly matters once you have a consistent 10Mbps download, 6Mbps upload and 30-50ms ping.

This thread will serve as a blog for my experience on Vodacom 4G going forward. :)

Footnote: I'd like to thank VodacomData for working on resolving my overcharged account for November and December 2013.

Unidentified caller ?

I've been getting calls from "Unidentified Caller" for the past 2 weeks. Sometimes between 4-7 calls per day. Every time I answer the call is terminated. I'm really getting p*ssed off with this now. I presume there is no way to find out where these calls are coming from because it is an "Unidentified Caller" ?

Nada Vodacom in Stilbaai

Even got on the roof, nada. Went even higher, on top of the attic, nada. Sat there for a while, taking pics, when the phone got like half a bar of signal, just enough for one sms to pop through and nada again.

Been like this the whole day - I cannot be the only one. JimM? MTN/CellC working just about fine. Although MTN need to have a look at what the heck is going on with their 3G. My 'whole' vacation was a tale of either full signal with the mifi, or 0.

Mifi to pc with usb

Hi there,

Noob question, would appreciate some advice.

I have a vodacom data sim in a e5331 mifi router. Can I connect to the Internet with it through a USB cable and if I can how do I set up the connection.

I used the sim in a Vodafone dongle with the Vodafone software so that was easy, but I have no clue when it comes to the mifi device so please be patient and descriptive.

Thank you in advance.

How people are screwing themselves over with Vodacom prepaid.

Apart from the fact of using Vodacom in the first place...

Say I want to buy a 500 meg data bundle:

a) *111#
b) 3. Buy bundles and services
c) 2. Data bundles

d) Enter number

e) 2. Once off Broadband standard

f) 5. For 500 Meg

Does the above look normal? Lets see if someone can take note of how I just got screwed over?
Wonder how many "average" uninformed people fall for this little Vodacom trick.

SIM card at Oliver Thambo

$

Hi Everyone

Can I buy a SIM card at Oliver Thambo airport for Vodacom? I think a starter pack will work, but will the starter pack have a 64K or 128K SIM card? Or is there a better place to buy the card at a good price. I have a SIM cutter to make a regular size into a nano size, but nano will be nice too.

Please point me in the right direction or website. I have searched but cannot find a answer from my friend Google.

Cheers
