HTML Compression? or paying for uncompressed data?

Hey guys. New Here.

I read up on HTML and CSS etc compression.
In short the compression of web content so that its sent smaller and faster to your computer where it is decompressed again.

Now if you go to
Device Manager/Modems/properties/advanced/Change Default Preferences
you see that under the Data Connection Preferences, Compression is greyed out.

So I'm wondering if the data from our computers to the Vodacom servers and back is compressed?
Or is the compression option greyed out and disabled on our side and uncompressed on their side as a means of squeezing more money out of us?

Btw:
While you re checking
Device Manager/Modems/properties/advanced/
go to Advanced Port Settings
switch on the FIFO Buffers
and set the send and receive buffer toggles down one notch each.

This should avoid the re-sending of data due to buffer overruns and safe a couple of rand.
