Vodacom is currently editing all web traffic that is sent over its mobile internet service and inserting personal information, including your cellphone number, to the HTML header. Visit http://lessonslearned.org/sniff using your Vodacom internet service (Make sure you aren't connected to WiFi) to see for yourself.
The tests I have done show that MTN doesn't add any information and CellC adds what I assume is an unique ID, but no personal information (Cellphone number).
This information allows sites to scrape your number, uniquely identify you and track you, among other things.
More information can be found here that can explain why: http://webpolicy.org/2014/10/24/how-...-header-works/
Hopefully with enough support we can get Vodacom to make this an opt-out option or have it removed completely.
