Hi! I read a recent article about Vodacom's promotional R99 3g card + 100MB/month (for a year) special. So what I did was visit my nearest Vodashop yesterday. The guy knew nothing about it and told me to try another Vodashop about 3km away. I decided to verify this and visited Vodacom.co.za website. I saw an instant chat link on the right hand pane and clicked on it. I chatted to a guy and he answered my questions (if the price included the Sim and 3g card, and that yes there was such a deal happening). Next thing he asked for my ID, phone number, physical address, postal address, cell #, salary, bank details, when to debit my account...) Since I didn't know much about the deal, I complied. Now I've never ever had any contracts before in my life. Hell I even bought all my cars cash (yes it's possible :) and I'm under 30) So I don't have a credit rating. Thank goodness for that! As that's what ended whatever the Vodacom consultant was trying to do. Because I don't have a credit rating, I'm not ITC cleared. So my details meant I was not approved for whatever the consultant wanted to do. He gave me the ITC landline number and told me to get back to him after dealing with them (still waiting for the response from ITC-they said 5 days). So I decided to not wait but try another Vodashop. Yet again they knew nothing about it. The guy showed me the latest pamphlet with R299 contract. I almost gave up, but then went to Game to buy something. And guess what? There was the R99+100MB/month Voda deal (I can top up my data when the 100Megs run out). And all I needed was my ID and proof of residence - NOT salary or banking details. It's not a contract at all. And I bought myself one.
I'm now a bit worried about what the Voda online chat consultant wanted all those details for. Do they keep our online chat details? I want to cancel whatever it was he wanted to sign me up for...because I doubt it was what I wanted. Please any Vodacom reps help me. I can forward the email manuscript to you if you want. Just cancel whatever he was trying to do. I don't want to wait to get ITC cleared then next thing get my account debited from Vodacom. Thanks!
