Dear members,
This is my first post and would like to know if anyone will be able to assist?
I have a Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 (vodacom firmware) updated to Android 8.0 security patch level May 2018.
It was quite a struggle to get 4G provisioned on my sim along with VoLTE and VoWiFi. But after endless calls to the call centre managed to get it all working.
I then noticed that a friend with a Galaxy S8 also android 8.0 but with cell c firmware gets 4G+ on vodacom where I do not. I entered the service menu and noticed that vodacom aggregate bands 1 and 3 in that specific area (Stellenbosch). 5mhz on band 1 and 10mhz on band 3, basically the same as Cell C. With a Cell C sim it also shows 4G+ btw.
When I do get 4G+ and enter the service menu it shows it is aggregating band 3 (10mhz) and band 38 (15mhz).
Is there a problem with my phone or is Vodacom only offering more access to 4G+ to its customers with higher end phones?
I am aware of the same problem on Cell C which was addressed by a firmware update. Why is the same fix not included in the vodacom android 8.0 update to allow it to display 4G+ with only 15mhz of combined aggregation? This does affect the speeds I presume.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
