On the 15th of February I took out a new contract for a tablet with the VC call center.
Today VC debit my account for more than R136 000. I phoned them and found out that one of my little used sims was cloned on the 15th of February and has since been used for a massive amount of international calls.
I believe it was done by the call center because:
1. All my contracts where blocked for international calls. All the calls on this account where international
2. This is WAY over my credit limit and I was never contacted.
3. Around the same time that number dropped off my phone app and wouldnt work anymore so I could not check the balance even if I tried.
4. This is a contract account that is rarely used.
So the only person looking at my account, with my security questions, the ability to remove the credit limit and the international call blocking, and see that the account is rarely used, was the call center agent I spoke to.
So far I have called Vodacom and they have locked down the line and said that their "back office" forensics will be in contact with me.
I will also go and do an affidavit stating that I did not authorize the sim swap, nor did I make any of the calls after the sim swap was done.
Is there anything else I need to do?
